If you’re covered under the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), June 1, 2026 is the last day to renew your coverage. If you do not renew by the deadline, your 2026-2027 coverage will end on June 30, 2026.
Applications for the 2026-2027 benefit year will open on June 2, 2026, 10 a.m. MT

What Is the CDCP?
The Canadian Dental Care Plan is a federal government program that helps Canadians access dental care when they don’t have private insurance coverage. If your adjusted family net income is under $90,000 and you don’t have access to dental benefits through an employer, pension plan, or private provider, you may qualify.
The plan covers a wide range of services — from preventive care like cleanings and x-rays to restorative treatments — and is administered through the insurer Sun Life. Learn more
Why Does Renewal Matter?
The CDCP isn’t automatically renewed year to year. Each benefit period, users need to confirm they still meet the eligibility requirements. If you don’t renew by June 1, 2026, at 11:59 pm MT, your coverage will end on June 30, 2026. If that happens, any dental care you receive after that date won’t be covered or reimbursed, even if you reapply right away. There will be a gap in coverage until your new application is approved.
Do You Still Qualify?
Before you renew, you’ll need to confirm you still meet all four eligibility requirements:
- You don’t have access to private dental insurance. This includes through an employer, a family member’s employer, a pension plan, a professional organization, or a privately purchased plan
- You and your spouse or common-law partner (if you have one) have filed your 2025 tax return and received your Notice of Assessment
- Your adjusted family net income is under $90,000
- You’re a Canadian resident for tax purposes
Already on a provincial dental program?
Good news! You may still qualify for the CDCP. Provincial programs like Alberta Child Health Benefit, AISH, Income Supports, and others can work alongside the CDCP. Coverage is coordinated between the two plans, so you’re not double-billed, and there are no gaps.
How to Renew
You’ll need a few things handy before you start:
- Your CDCP member ID (on your membership card or any CDCP letter from Service Canada)
- Your 2025 Notice of Assessment from the CRA
- Social Insurance Numbers for all applicants (for children, if available)
- Full names, dates of birth, and home/mailing addresses
- Details of any dental coverage through government social programs, if applicable
Apply:
- Online through My Service Canada Account (MSCA)
- Online without and MSCA account
- By phone
Before Your Next Dental Appointment
Even after you renew, there are a few things worth keeping in mind to make sure your visit goes smoothly:
- Always confirm your coverage is active before you book
- Make sure your dentist accepts CDCP patients and will bill Sun Life directly
- Your co-payment level is based on your income and may change year to year
- Your dentist may charge amounts beyond the CDCP established fees. We encourage you to ask about this upfront.

Watch Out for Scams
The CDCP will never ask you to pay a fee to renew or apply. If you receive a phone call, text, email, or pop-up ad asking for your banking or credit card information in connection with the CDCP, it’s a scam.
