The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a dental benefit for eligible Canadian residents who do not have access to dental insurance and have an adjusted household net income of less than $90,000. The CDCP also works with most provincial dental programs like Alberta Child Health Benefit, Alberta Adult Health Benefit, Income Supports, Child and Youth Support, AISH (Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped), children in care/ guardianship, and FSCD (Family Support for Children with Disabilities).
If you are on these benefits, you don’t have to choose your coverage: use both!
Am I eligible?
You are eligible if you have a family income of less than $90,000 per year, or single income less than $70,000 and don’t have a private or employer dental insurance plan (other government funded plans are ok).
Why should I apply if I already have provincial dental coverage in Alberta?
- The CDCP covers many procedures such as crowns, root canals and extra hygiene that the provincial plans don’t cover.
- If you have hit the maximum on one plan, we can bill the other plan.
- You won’t have to wait for us to pre-authorize some procedures so you can get your dental work done sooner.
- The provincial programs only cover a small portion of the cost of your dental care. Dental clinics are actually losing money to treat patients under these programs and this makes it difficult for dental offices to treat many patients on these programs. The CDCP helps to cover this gap. By enrolling in the CDCP, you make it easier for people with
benefits through a provincial dental program to receive care.
